Week 16 & 17: This is not a cop out

Week 16

But yeah it kind of is. I’ve been pretty busy because I’m oh-so-popular. Sike, it’s just classes and extracurricular stuff. Now that I actually have a position in the club, I have more responsibility which is great except that it also means I’m busy busy busy. I love being busy it makes me feel accomplished. Our club had a retreat to transition the from the old to new executive members. It was pretty much an awesome time. So awesome I didn’t get to take any good pictures so here are some more pictures of Louie from my phone.

Week 17

I just like taking pictures of my dog, okay? Jeez. I know you like it. Don’t deny it.

Week 15: Cape Cod

There were talks of a family road trip for quite some time. We’d rent an RV and drive around maybe head down to Florida and DISNEY WORLD!!! Unfortunately, my family is way too big to be crammed into an RV. We’d probably murder each other. We love each other but some of my cousins are notorious fart machines. Instead, we planned a last minute trip with half of the family to Cape Cod. We rented a house that was absolutely beautiful. It made me realize how gross my house is. I need to be on one of those home makeover shows. Anyway, even though the weather was kind of dreary, we had a lot of fun just hanging around the house. I spent a lot of time completing jigsaw puzzles which sounds kind of lame but it was nice to get the kids away from technology. We cooked meals together, made smores and chilled in their hot tub.

The very first thing we did was play on the hammock. I don’t know much about my future but the one thing I do know is that I must have a hammock. It’s like a giant swing. Even if the children are evil and tried to flip me off of it.

Week 14: Biffle Dates

By now you should know that I can’t cook. I literally had to google “how to boil eggs” for my deviled eggs disaster. But if there’s one thing I can make, it’s pasta. Cook pasta, pour sauce over it and voila. I fancied it up with zucchini and fried chicken pieces. One to make it healthier and the other because I’m a fatty. But I can’t take all the credit. I invited my biffle, (Best friends for life = BFFL = biffle, ahh get it? okay back to the post) Tina, to teach me how to cook but apparently she doesn’t really know either. So together we created this masterpiece:

Okay so it was mostly her doing, I had to leave her halfway through our cooking adventure to drive my mama to work. We later went shopping where I bought an American flag sweater that I won’t shut up about.

My second biffle date of the week this time with Alison, (I can have more than one biffle! Don’t judge me!) who’s probably the only person who reads this blog because she has no life, was at the Punk Rock Flea Market. That was the longest most poorly written sentence yet.

They have lots of cool dealies there like handmade crafts and secondhand clothes. I ended up with some clothes, soap, gotta have my soap, and ice cream! Chocolate salt malt, just as delicious as it sounds, maybe even more so.

Week 13: Mother’s Day

Mothers, they carried you around for 9 months and squeezed your giant head out of their nether regions. To make up for it, we dedicate this one day a year to celebrate them. I’m an awful daughter. I throw tantrums like an angsty teenager, except I’m 21 and supposedly an adult. But on Mother’s Day, I have to be a good daughter. I try my absolute hardest not to give her an attitude, which probably shouldn’t be that hard but it is. I don’t know something about my mom drives me crazy. Someone teach me to be a better daughter, please.

Well this year, after much debate, we decided to try a new korean BBQ place where the mothers gossiped and took a ridiculous amount of selfies for their social network sites and the children ran wild. I was just chasing the baby around. He’s sooooo cute. kdsljdskfjsldkjf sdlkfj so cute.

Maybe it’s just me but I find boxed cake mixes to be such a cop out. If you’re going to bake something for someone the least you can do is make it from scratch. Sunday morning, I went with my cousin to the supermarket to buy ingredients. I tried making this cake from Martha Stewart for my mama. Don’t click on the link it looks nothing like the mess you’ll see below. Nothing!

I have no attention span and skimmed through most of the first step. I didn’t realize until I threw the cake in the oven that I left out the baking soda, baking powder, etc. Putting those ingredients after you’ve already mixed everything doesn’t work. It tasted pretty good but was dense like a pound cake. My mom pretended to like shortly before one of my aunts threw it out. Psh, one day I’ll learn to cook/bake properly.

Week 12: Birthday Picnic

Birthday picnics! What is this? Have you ever heard of it? Because I think it’s the best idea ever. It’s so simple. Invite friends to a park make them bring food and things to play with and that’s it. If you’re like me and have a bunch of separate groups a friends this is a casual way to bring everyone together. So yeah, I went to a birthday picnic at a pretty awesome park I’ve never heard of. I lost my charger for my DSLR so this week’s pictures came straight out of my phone.

Week 11: PIFA

Have I ever mentioned how much I love food? This stuffed french toast is incredible. It’s enormous, I couldn’t finish the whole thing.

We then went to PIFA, a street festival with a bunch of fun cool things. I can’t remember what we did but it was fun.

Week 10: Lost Bets

A few years back, my cousin was planning her wedding. All of the girls in the family would be bridesmaids. We spent countless Facebook messages and trips to David’s Bridal to coordinate the dresses. It took us weeks to decide on the color Guava. That’s not even a color, it’s a fruit! And it took us even longer to find different styles of Guava dresses that were available in our size. “I like this style but they only have it in Melon.” “Well if you guys all get short dresses, would it be weird for me to wear a long one?” But we finally put the orders in and waited for the day of the wedding.

That never happened. My cousin still got married but because of a series of events we weren’t able to plan an actual ceremony. I tried to pick a dress that I would be able to wear for multiple occasions but I rarely ever go to formal events. There are days when my cousins and I would just sit down and shake our fists, angrily muttering “Freaking Guava!” Sometimes I would wear the dress around the house just so it wouldn’t be wasted. It wasn’t until recently that I found the perfect use for it:

Week 8 & 9 Deviled Eggs

Week 8

You know you’re getting old when you start going to potlucks and networking events. I can’t cook for my life, so when my “family” suggested a potluck as our monthly event, I completely blanked. Usually I cop out and bring soda or bake a cake from a box, but this time I wanted to try making something myself. My best friend said deviled eggs would be fool proof. It’s not. Many eggs were lost that day. The key to easy to peel hard boiled eggs is a sprinkle of baking soda. They turned out pretty tasty but didn’t travel well and was a gross mess by the time I got there. At least I tried.

Week 9

I treated myself to a new lens, the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens AKA Nifty Fifty. I waited an extra month for this lens to ship because I wanted to save $5. It was the principle of the matter! Don’t change prices on me, Amazon! Okay enough of that. I got a chance to test out my new lens at the park. Check it out:

Week 7 & 8: Magic Chalk

Week 7

When I first told my friends where I was interning, the first thing everyone said is, “HAPPY HOUR!” Of course, we’re all talk and we didn’t actually start going to happy hour until the last few weeks of my internship. Brace yourselves for poorly exposed low lit pictures!

I’ve also been eating out a lot recently. There’s no excuse for that other than the fact that I love food.

Week 8

I’ve had my hands full lately. Everyone I saw recently will know what I’m talking about because it’s ALL I talk about. I adopted a dog! But not just any dog, the best dog in the world, Louie!

He’s been in the family for about 5 years now. My cousin is pregnant once again and doesn’t have the time to give him the TLC he deserves so I volunteered to take him. The transition period has been rough. He’s not properly housebroken and has separation anxiety. My mom also claims to be allergic to him but I honestly think she just doesn’t like him. But everything will work out with time… I hope.

I tried experimenting with manual focus but a lot of my pictures didn’t come out like I’d hope. :(

Week 6: Spring Cleaning

Every once in a while the amount of crap in my room will pile up so high that I’ll finally feel the desire to get rid of it all. I’ll probably never fully get rid of my pack rat tendencies but I can try being more selective about the things I keep. The thing that set off my cleaning frenzy was, believe it or not, my The Walking Dead obsession. The TV show was catching up to the part of the comics that I’ve left off on so I decided to buy the next set, The Walking Dead: Compendium Two. This thing is seriously the size of a phone book. Great value but so unwieldily. I didn’t have enough space for it so I had to clear off a section on my headboard. While I was at it, why not clear out some of my drawers? And that kids, is the story of how a comic book made me finally clean my room.

I got this signed Inspector Space Time print for Christmas (/birthday?) You can see the full image here. I’ve been watching a lot of Doctor Who this weekend too, that somehow makes me appreciate it even more.

During my trip to Paris, I bought this watercolor painting from a man in Montmartre. I was being a bit frugal during my trip but this artist had such a passion for his work. I felt like I was buying a piece of him. It’s an amazing painting, the buildings look as if they’re melting but the people and cars are almost photorealistic.

One day, I’ll do a proper room tour and you can see the rest of the painting. ;)
